Drawings...

I accepted a long time ago I'm not a drawer, an artist. My drawings, even my bests, left much to be desired. The picture in my head was not some thing I could create (in this lifetime). I had to accept the images in my head would never be able to come out by my own hand. Practice, years of yearning and want would not bring my dreams to reality.

Ironically words became my art. The things that left me stumped in how to spell have helped my spirit grow and heal. I no longer draw paints of ruined images I try to create from my head to paper: I draw with words and thoughts that soar. In those word I almost see my dreams.

peanuts...

I wrote this poem a number of years back after reading an interesting story in one of the books at a middle school I was tutor in.  The quote comes from that story.

“The mother looked at the little boy accusing, as though he had given away a secret of some importance, and said unwillingly, ‘Greenwich.’” – One Ordinary Day, with Peanuts by Shirley Jackson

At nights
When no whispers of her child came,
She lay in that bed
Frightened that it would be a dream.
He would come back
Demanding their child,
Her son.
He had so much money;
Would the police really keep their word?
Could she keep her child safe?
They needed time
To heal;
He was so young.
When her father offered to help,
Have them live with him,
She had wept
For a deep joy.
Her father could help,
He would protect them,
Like he protected her brothers and sister
On moonless, cold nights.
She had lied to friends,
Uncertain if someone would tell.
Her brothers lived near by;
They vowed to help.
She was scared though;
The unknown scared her,
As much as the dark.
She took what mattered to her
From that house,
Selling the rest,
Promising her child,
And her,
A better life.
This man with his trusting smile
Scared her.
Was it…?
But he had done as he said,
Sat on the steps,
Peanut shells on the ground
As her child and him ate.
He gave her his friend’s name,
A suggestion for good doughnuts,
A smile,
Peanuts for her father,
Her child on the drive.
She kept the name in her purse
As her child and she followed the van
Deciding her new life
Might start with a kind offer,
Trust,
And a peanut.

Food for the soul...

Go to a coffee shop and order a drink. I suppose it could be any sit down sort of restaurant but coffee shops always seem to have good vibes. Bring a pen and notebook (or whatever you like to write with and in). Sit down some where you're able to hear the employees taking orders and making orders AND you're able to hear customers' conversations. Write down pieces of what you hear, any thing that catches your attention. Take notice of clothes people wear, how they stand waiting in line, what actions do they take. Flow with it. Don't erase. And enjoy your drink.

Here we go...

I know
We'll probably not meet again in this lifetime
I know
You'll probably not forgive me
I know
I'll never be able to explain myself to you
I know
I'll never forgive myself for what I did to you
The word "never"
Does not come easily for me
One doesn't know what the future holds
People are always changing and growing
I know if we do meet in the future
Even if you asked me
Were ready to listen and forgive
I wouldn't
Hurting you and letting you go from my life
Broke a piece of me
It took a long time for me to heal
To be all right
To discover the strength in myself
You had all along
Some things are just unforgivable
How I treated you
Someone important to me
Is unforgivable

I didn't finish it and no longer have the desire to. It's been too long since I've written on here, too long since I've longed to write. The feeling is so good and so good to have again. I think the time to finish is getting closer.

To You,
I was torn for a while about using the last name "Hayashi"; I no longer feel the hesitation and have used it for some of the main characters. Thank you for recommending it. I hope maybe one day to see the tattoo designs you come up with. I'll work on my end so that one day I'm able to see yours.

Dear you...

I want to tell you thank you
For making me feel special
Important
And cared for
You give me strength
Courage to trust people again
To be myself
You remind me what's important in life
The power of friendship
And the honesty people have with one another
You help me believe
And see
To love
Enjoy the simple things again
You give me a peace
And comfort
I've been searching for
A place to relax
Recover
Be relieved of daily stress and grime
Return to me
Your gentleness
Honesty
And patience heal the memories
Once too painful to bare
Making each day a little easier
You often say you don't know how you got so lucky
That sometimes you don't know why I stick around
I want to tell you
Whisper in your ear
I'm the lucky one
That what I get from you is so much more than I deserve
And I'm so grateful we found each other
